Music video filming!

Today we filmed our music video and have done what was needed to be shot at our location, Bawsey Pits in Kings Lynn. We left at 8am as planned with everyone needed (all actors me and Karl). We got to the location by 9.45 and we started filming instantly as we felt we needed to get this done and we had the day only to do so. We started off by being in the car par and started form where the video started and went from there. We instantly found fault and that was that we forgot the chalk for the clapper board but we improvised and just renamed all files to the shot scene so it was easier to find once we were home and editing.

The weather was not the best today. There was rain on the ground and it was very muddy all around like we spoke about in the risk assessment and this could have instantly been a problem but we coped throughout the day and it did get better later on with sun which was great for our music video as we wanted it to be sunny at the end. There was no slips from anybody throughout the day and we successfully kept continuity throughout the music video and it worked very well.

While we were filming the video I kept making a 'behind the scenes' video getting views from the actors and how they felt the day was going, I also filmed shots being made so that we could have evidence of how it was being filmed and how it was being directed.
here is the video as I edited this already:

I think the positions we chose to take were also correct to. Karl was a good director and he took a good management role on what was happening. I also think I did a good job because I positioned the characters the way we wanted and also when filming I got some good results and good parts for our music video. I also think I gave good ideas on the day also for parts we were not sure about and I think overall we did a good job together.

I think Carl also did a good job because he acted how we wanted and he knew better than us on how the characters should be dressed and their emotions at certain times. He also gave valuable information when needed on how the shot should be positioned and told us some good points when is was not correct.

I think today went very well considering the weather as nobody got hurt and we got all the shots we wanted and we will be filming the prologue and scene after the video shortly also when me, Karl and Carl can all find a time slot available.

Shooting Schedule

Today me and Karl made a Shooting Schedule for Sunday when we film our music video as we felt this was needed and also it will help us along with the story board tomorrow and make it more efficient when filming. We have made 2 shooting schedules. A bedroom shooting schedule for when we film it and a Bawsey Pits schedule which we will be filming on Sunday.

I made the Bedroom schedule as it was smaller but me and Karl divided the Bawsey Pits one up equally and we both sat down and spoke about it together to get the best results. We did this in the library after school and made it the most accurate we could within the time and I think it is sufficient enough for what we need it for. It is a good plan to work from and I think it is successful for our first try at one of these.

These are the shooting schedules;

Bawsey pits shooting schedule;

Prop List

This is a prop list we worked on as a group. The list includes everything we will be taking and what each character needs when filming. I think this is a good document because we can take this we we go to film ad use it as a good way of preparing for the day also. It covers everything we need and what is needed to be done for the day and we will be using this for preparation on the weekend

Equipment list

This is a list I made with the group on what equipment we will be taking to our location when filming. It highlights all the stuff we will take and whats needed and also what equipment we are using so that we know when it comes to the day and can use this as a checklist.

Risk assessment for filming

Today I and Karl made a video on the risks when we are filming our music video. We felt this would be needed because we need to address the issues we found on the day we went to Bawsey to do recon of the area. We found several problems and we addressed these in the video we made;

We felt this was a good video to do but we could have made it better by having our 3rd member involved Carl, but he was busy with other subjects so we spoke on his behalf as we both know him well.

Release form

This is a release form we all created together by all giving ideas and making it into this document. I will hand out to the Actors and let the sign it to say they will participate. This is a good form because it highlights what is needed from them and also is detailed enough to show what we need them to do and so that we can publish the content.

Release Form for Actors and Extras.

We have sent these to our actors and re recieved the forms back from them so that we could film them and publish. We wanted to do this so that it looked more professional and also so that we have the permission to film what we want to with these induviduals. These are the forms we got back from our actors including Carl.

Bedroom set (Carls Bedroom)

This is the set we will be using for the bedroom scene at the beginning and end of the video. It will be filmed in Carl's bedroom and we all drew this up knowing how his bedroom is set up now. Me and Karl also spoke about this with him and we felt it was best to put the bed near the window so that we get the most natural light we can get. This will work best as this is what we are trying to use throughout and use minimal artificial lighting, only when needed or for affect.

We will be using a artificial light in the room though as this is more normal than not having a light on. The light will be already on when he walks in and this will make it look more like a real bedroom but we hope to film on a clear day so that we get as much natural lighting as possible so the shots are clear and do not look unprofessional.

Crew List

This is our crew list for this weekend when we film our music video. I have made this after talking to Carl and Karl and have taken note of what they want to do and was all agreed before we started as we all knew what we wanted to do.
I think this is useful because it is going to help us when we look back when we are filming and also afterwards as it shows our roles. It also tells us who's job it is to do something if we are not sure and can make things easier for us when filming and for what we need to do on the day.

Proposition for my Music magazine Advert and my Digipak

In 2 days I am presenting my ideas on what I would like to do in my music magazine advert and also for my Digipak. Over the past 2 days I have been working on a presentation for my proposition and it is now finished ready for Thursday's lesson in which the class will listen to and give me feedback;

I think this is sufficient because I have also created some notes for on the day when I am going to present it to stop me looking at the presentation constantly.

I have also created 2 questionnaires to hand out at the end also, one for my Digipak and one for my music magazine advert and these will be filled out I hope and get some great feedback on and see what the opinions are of my class, which are also coincidentally in my target audience so I will take on-board their ideas afterwards and change my ideas if they seem suitable and work. these are the questionnaires I will be handing out:

I think these are sufficient for the answers I want back and I will hand these out to each person in the room. They also cover what I need them to and will give me good answers to use for information when evaluating how successful this will have been.
When I am presenting I will be filming it so that I can upload it onto here and also to get the opinions when people are asking questions when I'm doing the presentation.

I think my presentation was good but it could have been better. I could of directed what i was saying more to the audience and the camera so that it was more clear and I could be heard easier. Also i could have added more information because after looking at Carl's presentation he had more information and i did forget to speak about my target audience and also I did not make a first draft of my Digipak.

Animated Storyboard

This is the completed animated storyboard we have created together. We did this together at school working on the computers and having an opinion on what length and how to make it work with the lyrics. We think this is a good try as we have put across what we want to do but also used the times correctly so that it edits correctly with the beat and also works together on the lyrics also.
The animation could of been made better by taking clearer photos. The photos show parts of the table in them and also parts of other clips and this does not make it look professional. If we were to make this again we would clear this problem away first before going forward but I think overall we did a good job. It gives us a good understanding ready for filming this Sunday.

Codes and conventions of Magazine Adverts and links between advertisement, magazine and audience

Instruments borrowing

We are filming this Sunday and I felt it was a good time to ask the music department if we can borrow an acoustic guitar and a large drum for the weekend and this was the email I sent.

"Hello

I am just emailing on behalf of me and my group in media a2 and we are just asking if it is ok if we can borrow two instruments for our music video which we would like to film this Sunday?

If possible we would like to borrow an acoustic guitar and a drum we can hold which is large is possible?

Please let us know if we can borrow these A.S.A.P for the weekend, thanks

Josh"

I felt this was a better idea than just walking to them Friday and asking as we may have not got them in time so I sent this email to the head of department, I am awaiting a reply and will add to this when i get one...

We did not get a reply to this so on the Thursday we walked to the music classroom and asked and we were allowed to borrow what we wanted so we now have our instruments for filming.

Blog feedback 14/11/2013

Sales of CD's Over the last 5 years

After creating this, I have found that it needs to heavily advertise not only the band but also where it can be brought from. The idea of iTunes and amazon mp3 needs to be introduced instead of using old ways of buying such as HMV as we now buy off these websites much more than before. I could also include a website such as play.com as these again have had a rise in sales because they offer the CD's at the lowest price anywhere.
It will impact my work heavily and will change the appearance and how it is shown a variety of ways.

Intertexuality

Intertextuality:
  • It is an idea that any text has been influenced and shaped by texts that have come before it.
(anything read or seen in the case of movies or music videos)
  • Therefore no music video exists on its own and consciously borrows ideas from other music videos, past or present.

  • Intertextuality is used in many music videos. The music video in this case would make reference and ideas from other music videos on purpose or without thinking about it.

There is intertextuality in this video straight away because it instantly gives a vintage look to the whole video with the opening. This could link with the origins of the genre and also is used in old fashioned films and videos. Also there is a really good example throughout by overplaying the stereotypes of the genres. They are using lots of slo-mo's and holding lots of instruments.

At 2.37 above this is a good example. He has the guitar in his hand but then has instruments all over him and as the large drum on his back. Also instruments on his hips and all this is using the stereotypes we expect from a video of this genre and is showing Intertextuality bu using other videos and taking them ideas.
Intertextuality can also be seen in the costume. They are wearing the same clothes as the band usually wear in the videos or in concerts, making you recognise them better and see them more like the original band.

Intertexuality can be used to attract an audience as it is using themes we know well and bringing them into the video making us recognise it better and eventually like it more. Intertextuality also means we understand it more as it is not a brand new concept and is easier to accept and we understand it more.

We, in our music video will use Intertextuality with the costumes and the environment. We will have the characters wearing the same kind of clothing and will be in the same environment as the usual folk music videos. This was a decision we made instead of consciously choosing to do it. We thought it was a good idea to choose these because we knew this would make the video more recognisable.

    How musicians promote themselfes

Mumford and sons have a very smart way of promoting themselves.

The group cleverly use the audience at concerts to promote them by making music videos like above by using it to their advantage. The use the audience to make the atmosphere more lively and make you want to be there. This promotes their concerts and music as you will remember the scenes when listening to it and making you like it even more.

This is a clever way of promotion as it is something which is made naturally. The concerts provide the film as well as making the money from the concert itself and is making two good points from one thing. The video is also well positioned with camera shots as it shows the power of the music and its audience and makes you more attracted to it.

This is an album cover and I have previously used this to show the ideas. They promote themselves well as they use a simple setting throughout and it works with the music. The albums also reflect their music well and they sell millions of albums this way. Being simple in its own way promotes them as there is no shouting on you should buy it, instead they would rather you listen to the lyrics and buy it and the reviews on there albums are always high.

    How star image is used

    Star image is used in all Digipak's as this is what sells the album. It is the ideas we see with the artist, for example;
Kanye west uses his original bear figure in his early albums because this is what his fans recognised him and his albums by. The star image also can be based on how they look, so for our genre, folk, they would look clean and it would have a natural look and also light colours mainly.

These are from our genre and follow the same rule. They are simple and this is the star image. It is not about shouting and screaming to be brought, instead you buy for the music inside and you buy because you know it is going to be good instead of buying on its attractiveness.
This is a rule I would like for my Digipak. Also I have :
    • Simple
    • Natural colours
    • Natural/outdoor environment
    • small amounts of photo shopping to look more vintage
    • correct clothing for genre
    • The whole band included
I want to use these rules because I feel it will then work better with the genre as it is what most of these Digipak's from our genre do and they sell well.

    Design of matching digipak's

The matching themes are very important. The fact that it all matches appeals the audience into buying even more. This is because it 'fits' together well and makes more sense than if it was jumbled together. Also if the front cover is basic, then the rest should work on this theme, if it did not then it would need a good reason for this, as it is not normal to do that as it does not fit and may seem off putting to the customer and may not buy it.
Also as seen with this, the pictures are very natural and to go with this, the colours and light and natural too with no 'luminous' colours which go against the idea. They work together and also, if you listen to the music, this style works with it also.

    The importance of iconography

    • set: a normal room in a natural setting, no special props, trying to look realistic
    • props: Just his guitar and playing diagetically in video
    • the video shows the idea of this band being in a normal house playing along to the camera and to us,the audience.
    • The singers are wearing normal clothes for this genre of music, a smart shirt and jeans and a hat, folk is mainly dressed like this because they want us to see them as working people and from the countryside.

    • The main light source is from the window behind and probably lights behind the camera also. This helps with the natural look
    • It shows the idea of being in a house clearly as this is like a living room and is trying to be very relaxed with it.
    • The main singer is clearly in the frame as this shows us who is exactly singing and playing. This is normal for folk music is this is a style used universally as they want to show what is happening clearly and make it simple.
    •

    • in this shot, the lead singer is in the middle. Along with him are the backup vocalists and are singing with him
    • the whole band gets involved showing who is in it and how it is being sung.
    • they are standing in front of each other which makes it seem unprofessional, but this is what is wanted the whole style has changed from how it started above.
    • they are walking through the corridor to something which isn't shown yet but could be some kind of concert, again showing the genre as it usually is.

    • here the audience sees the singers crowded by people singing and dancing in a room in some kind of house.
    • he is dancing with everyone and everyone is happy.
    • he is in the light behind and kind of making him distorted showing he is the lead man out of everyone.
    •       The crowds are all around which could show hey are really enjoying the music and makes the viewer want to be there.
    •       the light is on everyone and it can clearly show their expressions
    • the room is full of people which helps with the atmosphere throughout and makes the viewer want to go to that place, everyone is happy and having a great time.

I think I have made a real improvement in my analysis of mise en scene compared to my first attempts. I can now see that even small aspects of a video can have a large impact on the viewer as they can be very important.I also recognise how when filming the rule of thirds are very important as it can show what is happening and give us the idea they want us to have. All this will help me when filming and my Digipak because it shows the importance of certain objects and positions.

Our plan for the next 2 months

I created this so that we could keep looking back to this so that we can see where we are and if we are on target. I think this was a great idea because this is good for us to set targets and try to stick to them as this is a problem we do have sometimes. It also highlights what we still need to do and the amount we have done. This helps me as it makes me see what is done and what isn't.
To make this better I could of made a voice recording or video with it but I would of liked to had Carl and Karl involved to do that as it would make better discussion but I think this is good enough because it shows what I have done and what I need to do over the next 2 months.

    Location permission update

    Today we have had a reply from the company who own the location we want to film at. The email said;

    Hello
This has been forwarded to the relevant person.  I am waiting for a reply.

    Regards

    Nicola Cole
    Resources Administrator
    Sibelco UK

This is good as it hopefully means we will get a reply soon as we want to film by the 24th of November.

Overall where I am right now

After everything I have done for work so far I think that things are going well. Our storyboard is completed and we have gone to our location to find places to film, also sending off the permission letter so that we can film there and we have even took videos of scenes to see if they will work or not, all this helping me hopefully achieve level 4 on the mark scheme. The focus groups have been completed and all data is on my blog now and all this will help me and my group on what we are doing over the next few weeks. I have also tried to make the blog as interactive as possible and I feel that it is at a very thorough level and the information used throughout is the same.

Over the next few weeks I hope to finish the work on my music video and have it all filmed and ready for editing and also, I would like my Digipak to be on its way to completion and the music magazine page to also be started and hopefully on its way to finishing. If I can do this then I will have enough time at the end to finish anything I have not done to level 4 to be completed and to have it at that level.

Me and Karl made this evaluation video to go into more detail last week before location viewing so here is what we talked about:

To make this video better we could have used Carl also but unfortunately he was busy so it was not possible but I think we did this well because we went over everything we did but also critiqued on what we had done and spoke about what was good. I think this was good also because now we have done this we can take this video on-board when going on to film the music video and create out Digipak's and music magazine covers.

    Mark scheme analysis

Level 4 Criteria: (must use this as a summary:
    1.       Planning and research evidence will be complete and detailed.

    2.       There is excellent research into similar products and a potential target audience.

    3.       There is excellent skill in the use of digital technology or ICT in the presentation.

    4.       There is an excellent level of care in the presentation of the research and planning.

I am aiming at level 4 for my coursework and this is the criteria I need to meet. With the first point I think I have achieved this because I have uploaded sufficient amount to show I have great planning and research. I think my focus group research is the best piece as I have lots of information about before and after the focus groups and I also took the lead role when taking the focus groups and getting some great results back from the students creating excellent research.

With the second point I feel I have nearly got to this point but I do need to do a little more work to this point. I have good research into other products by looking into other folk bands but I do feel a little more would bring it to excellent as it is not at this point right now. The potential target audience part in my eyes I feel I have done great in this part. Me and my group did lots of research into a target audience as this was a part we wanted to make sure we did well. In this part I think that I only need to bring up the first part on looking at similar products.

With the third point I feel I have matched this well. The use of ICT and digital technology in my blog is thorough. I have embedded everything I can and it is interactive to others when asking if they think it is or not. I have also used good IT skills when gathering my focus group results by using a power point and using bar graphs and pie charts. The blog also has lots of pictures and videos also and we used certain camera shots to stress what we were doing and all this in my opinion makes it have excellent skill when involved in this part.

With the fourth point I feel this links with the above paragraph. I have used lots of ways to make the blog the most interactive as it can be while still being well detailed. I have also used lots of ways of presenting this information with such things as being videos, presentations, recordings and also using writing when needed so that it has sufficient knowledge to get to level 4. I have tried to also make the blog interesting instead of just using text and I feel that this makes the blog clearer and puts me into the level 4 bracket with this question.

Overall I think that I am nearly at a level 4 if I can research a little more into similar products and constantly reference to these other bands. If I can do this and keep the blog interactive I feel that I will be on a level 4 as I will have highlighted all these points and done them accordingly throughout.

    Digipak examples

In this post I am going to overview several Digipaks, some from the folk genre but also some from other genres so that I get a good overview.
This is a Digipak from the famous folk band Mumford and Sons. The Digipak is very basic and has a very clear way of how it is designed. The colours are very clear and there are lots of whites because this makes it more simple and gives it a feel of 'purity' that the album does not need flashing lights to be sold. The Digipak also, when using pictures also have lots of whites but the lighting is very natural, something which runs through most of folk music. The Digipak is also very clean looking prepared to the two I studied at the beginning of the year, it has a basic feel but this works as it is throughout and in its own way attracts consumers because of this.

This is the prodigy breathe Digipak, a band which is a punk rock band. The Digipak uses lots more different colours and has some way of randomness, along with that. This works with the genre because it is known for a crazy scene and this works with that type of music. If I used
this for my folk band or this type of style, it would be going against the normal conventions and maybe would not be as appealing to the target audience. It is like the album is using the randomness to sell it and the colour to attract you to it.

After analysing contrasting Digipak's my results will influence the next stages of planning because there is a clear difference between genres and how there Digipak's reflect this. The fact that the Prodigy use colours and different photos to attract you yet Mumford and Sons only uses clear colours and makes it look clean and it is showing they do not need colours and lots of images to sell the music. This could be because the prodigy have more competition and their genre does not try to show a clean image, instead its about lots of music and drugs/alcohol abuse. This may be why they are so different and could be how people choose which to buy as each is attractive in its own way.

The Mise En Scece elements of our Music Video

This was made by all of us as a group and we all put in a input and made it together over the period of the day.

I think we did a great job with this because it has lots of information and is in very good detail. We have covered all the main ideas I feel we have spoken in very good detail about it and the surrounding ideas of that part of Mise en Scene. We have also presented it well by making it in a presentation because if this was all one piece of writing it would have been very boring and would not of put the point across as well, and is not very imaginative idea wise. I also like that there are small pictures in places to brighten it up more and also they are relevant to what he is talking about throughout

I think it could have been improved though by making the amount of writing more interesting. It is still large blocks of writing, but on a presentation. It is all relevant but it is just alot of work for what it is. It is in great detail but it could of maybe been separated better and imagnative ways of doing so. To separate the amount of writing we could of included more pictures or made voice recordings about it so that it saved time and made more sense to the reader/listener.

Overall I think this was a great way of displaying the information but will small tweaks it could have looked a little better. It is definately level 4 but to get top marks it could have had a better and more interactive way of displaying this information.

    Previous Blog analysis

We thought it would be a good idea to look at some other peoples blogs and see how they have done their coursework and see if we can do the same to get good results at have a clear blog which is well published and works well. these are the 3 we chose to look at:

    http://charlottebourgea2media1112.stratfordcollege.net/
This person's blog is very detailed and in depth, however, she hasn't used a variety of sources. This blog also feels a little dull and could become much more interactive and make it seem nicer to read and look at, instead of lots of text. To improve on her work she could add more images, links to other websites and just make the whole blog a nicer thing to read so that it looks smarter and more professional

    http://ryancarrolla2media.blogspot.co.uk/
This is more interactive but could be still improved. This blog has a strong point though, he has written about what has gone wrong and what he has done to try and get around his problems which is giving an even better analysis and shows he is understanding what he is doing and where he is going wrong. This may have got him higher marks in his coursework. It is something that I should also think about doing when i face problems with my work and blog as it will help me look back later on and try not to make the same mistake again.

    http://lucy-garstka.blogspot.co.uk/
This person's blog is very interactive in forms of pictures, as it has images of all different stages of their work. The work is also very detailed in places and is a very well constructed blog. To improve she could use a vaster variety of sources such as links, and filming of her working and also samples throughout of how far she in into the coursework. It is very interactive though which is great as it means it is easier to read and also more interesting than just text.

After looking at these blogs I have learnt a few things to remember for mine. It is key to have enough detail but also have an interactive interface otherwise it may feel boring. It is good to spend time on presentation as it makes work look much better and well prepared. To take these through to my blog I could make a check-list for each post and try to include these into every post possible so it is more interactive and interesting.
To know how my blog is doing and how much improvement it is making i can look at these blogs and try to do these good points accordingly and get the best blog by taking the advantages from each one and by putting them on my blog, it will hopefully make it a level 4 blog as it will have all the key information, and be interactive and make sense. I can also measure it by looking at the mark criteria on each post and try to fit it all in so that it is at level 4 constantly.

    Proposition of our music video

    We had to propose our music video today by making a power point and we also made a large poster to gain more detail. We wanted to do this as we felt it gave vital information and acted as a evaluation on what we were doing as we put the key pieces on here only. We also took turns on who would talk and who would say which bit which you can see in our video;

We think it went well as our poster you can see in the video was clear and we spoke clearly also and the class understood our plot and what we were going to do. It also had all the information wanted and we had set it out well in my opinion. The only thing I think we could have done is that we could of handed out questionnaires at the end to get opinions but instead we did not and asked the class what they thought instead and I think we could of got better results is we made the questionnaire.

This is our presentation we made to go with it and we only put little information on here as we felt it would be better to talk about it rather than a long paragraph and we also wanted to make it more interactive. We felt it was the best way to make the poster and talk about it as it can be very boring by just reading off a power point and we wanted to make it as interactive as possible

I think overall this proposition went well as we told all the information needed and did it in a interactive way. As the video shows we also made the poster with key points on which helped present the idea much better along with the power point and us all joining in on talking about what we are going to do.
The only thing,as said before, is that we did not make an questionnaire to show people at the end and answer to get results. This was a let-down as we forgot about this completely and is we were going to do this again we would use a questionnaire at the end to show the classes thoughts.

    Story board

We have been creating our story board now for several weeks and it is almost finished and I have taken photos of it to analyse it and say about what we have done. We firstly wanted to clearly set out our idea so we talked about it and from recent posts you can see our idea and what we had strongly before we started
As you can see, this is our first board. We did not do an alternative to this because we know we can use the recourse's easily and there would be no problem in filming this part. It is the idea of him having an envelope and getting texts from friends asking is he had done well, meaning his uni results. He then goes to lay down and we zoom into his face and he appears in a alternative world, where you do not know if its a dream or a memory and he goes into this place and meets his friends, the ones texting him. We think this was good as we are using a variety of camera angles and we are also going to be using the rule of thirds throughout and have him in the middle of the shot, except in the 11th as we are introducing his friends but still using the rule just on them.

This is the second page and the song has now gone form the prelude and the song is playing over the noise. We are going into this world now and are showing his friends and who is positioned where. We had columns on each side which i created which are positioning, comments and camera shots. We used these when needed when the paper can not show clearly so we thought this was a good idea to have these to explain further and detail what we were going to do. Throughout this we were thinking about where we can film these in our chosen location, Bawsey pits in Kings Lynn. We then noted these and used this a good recourse to use for this. While making this we were also thinking about what the characters were going to be wearing and how we were going to portray this throughout and link it with the genre.

This is carrying on in the location selected and moving on the video linking in the video with the lyrics and working out what would work well with it. We are still using the camera shots wanted and changing things but keeping continuity. In this board also, they have found the large tree which is the centre of the movie and we created a second in case we could not find this and we were going to make a new story board for this but after going to the location, we found this was not needed as we found a perfect place to film this. This is also the scene he runs away in and we want him to go through forested areas and all this is written and the comments explain more and develop further on what we are doing.
In this board we have shown at the top that when he runs away he goes to a lake and we wanted a frame in front of him but then we realised this may not be possible as the water so we made an alternative in case where beside him we have the shot and have it show him pick it up and only show his legs, we have a video to show this action and it will be uploaded soon. Over the page it is going from them finding him and consolidating him and we are going to use camera shots to show this and show his reactions and use it as a key to get things heard better.

This is the last page we have and it shows them running back to the last tree and finally playing together near this tree. We also have an alternative here though where we will go to a large open area near the tree as there is more room to get good camera shots and also we can get better lighting. We did not make any story board for the singing and dancing as it may depend on the lighting on the day and also the unpredictable weather we have. This will be created on the day by getting lots of shots and several for each sentence and using the best one to match later on in the editing.

We also did some practise shots while creating this as we felt this was needed to see if it works. We had a discussion on the storyboard and it was filmed while doing so and we edited the practise shot onto the end to show the ideas we are trying to show and see if it would fit and if the camera shot works.

I think this was a good idea as it now shows that the shot would work and we can incorporate it into our music video as a sequence.

After creating the story board we have a much more clear idea on what we are doing. The storyboard has helped as it has meant that we have had good discussions on what we want to do and also we have a story we all agree on and feel it is clear and will work. The toy board is useful because it also means on the day we film,we have a structure to do it on a and that means it will be better set out and be more efficient when coming to edit it together. We have our camera shots on here and also from the film we took, we can also see that it should work after testing it and seeing if it works.
The only down fault to this board is that by not storyboarding the singing area we may not get good results from this but we are willing to take the risk as the weather and lighting are a larger problem and we can create 3 scenarios ad use the best one depending on what we feel will work best. I feel we have high detail throughout with the comments and positioning, comments and camera shots and we have a clear structure on what to do on the day of filming.

Reception theory and Uses of gratification Theory

These are my notes on both these theories and  I have written them up from my work book and are what I have found out:

Text is not passively accepted by the audience, but that the reader/ viewer interprets the meanings if text based on their cultural background and life experience.
Active- going to see it (HMV for music adverts on tv)
passive - just seeing it while doing something else (Magazine scrolling through pages)
    Uses and gratification theory-
This is an approach to understanding mass communication.
The theory places more focus on consumer or audience rather than he actual message itself.
"What people do with media" rather than "what media does to people. Katz 1959
Idea of active role and wanting to see it.
We use this theory when buying/listening to music. We choose it to fit a certain mood but also to show empowerment or other socially conscience motives.
Websites like you tube allow any music anytime to be played and we can learn at any time on Wikipedia. All change the way it is perceived.
This takes out the possibility that the media can have a unconscious influence over the lives of viewers.
These impact on researchers as we will have to plan both products completely differently. The Digipak will be active because people are actively searching for something and I will have to keep the uses and gratification theory in mind throughout. It needs to keep and gain the attention.
The music magazine page however needs to be passive as people are not searching for it, instead they may be just flicking through and not noticing and this will need to be planned completely differently to the Digipak as there audiences and ways of communication have to be completely different.
For my target audience this would change prepared to an audience of the age of 60 years + because out audience (16.30) have a different style of buying and how the watch promotional videos and adverts. As I am in this age group I can talk from personal experience that I see promotional videos on social networks and you tube, and I see adverts in the same place, and even on the Internet itself, things have changed form having in magazines because the adverts on the Internet can be much more focused as the data you have given includes your age and what you like.

    Location viewing photos!!!

Yesterday we went to our location, Bawsey pits in Kings Lynn to find places to film our locations on what we wanted. We found some great places and got photos of them, we also took videos explaining about what we were thinking when there but Karl has these and has not uploaded them yet so I can upload once they are on. We wanted locations for a large area to perform in, a hill for them to run up while Carl is following behind, an isolated area with nice scenes around it and some other small
places to fill gaps like walkways etc.
I think the best way to present it is on presentation:

I think this was a good way of presenting the pictures because it's much more useful and will not take up lots of space and also is more interactive than just photos and also has the information needed included making it detailed to a level 4. The work I did I feel also is good enough to make good assumptions on and use this as a good source of information on the filming day. The presentation also is not so boring as a load of writing and photos and is more readable to me and the others and I feel this was a great way of presenting it.

The only problem with this was that it took me a long time to create. I spent 3 hours trying to make it and i could have done it faster but I feel, although it took a long time, it is a good source of information and works very well.

This is a map of where we walked around the Bawsey pits and also, where camera shots were taken. I thought this was a good idea to make as it shows us where we took the shots and also, when it comes to film we will have better understanding on where we are filming our scenes.

    Story board making

These are some photos of the story board and the making of it. I thought of an idea of using a2 paper and making columns as seen and making boxes for the camera shot, positioning and comments. I thought this would be a good start as it would mean we could include all what we need . The story board is also green again matching the theme throughout and so far we are going well. We have not finished it yet but we are not far off and will be finished very soon, I will upload photos of it once it is also finished and make a post about what could have been done better and what is good about it.
